Issue 1, January 1st

“Merry New Year!!!”  I always think of Eddie Murphy in the movie Trading Places this time of year.  Actually I was out somewhere the other day and accidentally told someone to have a “Merry New Year,” please tell me I’m not the only one?  This is my final President’s message prior to passing the baton to PEOTC Julie Clements this coming Wednesday.  The first meeting of the year is always one of my favorite, because it’s a chance for a pep rally!  We’ll recognize our accomplishments of 2016, and especially the people who took leadership roles at various levels in order to make it a success.  I’m incredibly proud in particular of our Charities this past year for breaking new barriers.

  • YAP Safety Patrol Cookout-$4,711 Highest in nearly 10 years!
  • YAP Charity Golf Classic-$23,000 NEW RECORD!!!
  • Texas Hold ‘em Charity Poker Tournament-$3,057 NEW RECORD!!!
  • YAP JROTC Charity Clay Shoot-$21,298 NEW RECORD!!!!
  • Scholarship Support Awarded-$19,000 Highest EVER!!!!!

We had many successes throughout the year, more media coverage than I can recall since becoming a member in 2008, transitioning to a new charity for our Christmas Kids Shopping Spree, strong presence with working with our non-profit members for civic projects (Tera said we made her boss cry), a fantastic holiday party, all incredible and required the help of dozens of members.  They say it takes a village, and I personally want to thank each and every one of you for the role you played in making SBMC “Great Again!” (Shameless plug)  So please join us to celebrate on Wednesday, and join me in wishing all the best to the 2017 Leadership team as we swear them in and begin the 85th Year of Jacksonville’s BEST Civic Club!
