Last week we welcomed Dr. Bradford Hoppe of the Mayo Clinic, who spoke to us about Carbon Ion cancer treatments. Dr. Hoppe gave us a history on Radiation and Proton therapies and how they cure Lymphoma, however can have negative impacts on the body 20-30 years later. Carbon Ion therapy, however, is much more centralized and in a way “paints” the tumor with minimal exposure to the surrounding areas. Breaking ground in 2021 will be The Integrated Oncology Center in Jacksonville, the first of its kind in the United States, will be home to this innovative therapy.
