Issue 156, Dec 11

Last Wednesday was Pearl Harbor Day. We welcomed Alan Bliss from the Jacksonville Historical Society, who gave us a presentation on the days leading up to December 7,1941, the attack, and the aftermath of the attack. Contrary to what we have always been told, the U.S. wasn’t entirely unprepared. Live ammo was dispersed, and gun crews were put on regular standby rotations. This was noted by the Japanese on just how quickly a response to the attack was. Two key targets were left unscathed. The fuel reserves supplied the entire Pacific fleet and the dry docks, which allowed the damaged vessels to get repaired in a timely manner.

I would like to think this year’s officers and board for making this year a huge success. Congratulations to the club’s new officers and board members who were elected last week. Please remember we will not be meeting in person until the Change of Command and 2022 Awards on January 4. Have a happy holiday and Happy New Year!
