Issue 23, June 4

Last week’s meeting was one of the main reasons the Southside Business Men’s Club exists. We gave out scholarships to seven deserving students who are either entering college or continuing college. Three of them were JROTC members and the rest we first met when they were 5th grade patrols, whom we sent to Washington DC on funds we raised from the BBQ. There were some that couldn’t make the meeting, but a total of 13 students will receive scholarships. Kudos to Howard Caplan for all his hard work over the years presiding as chairman of the Scholarship Committee.

The YAP Wine Raffle was a BIG hit!!!! We had 52 bottles of wine donated by our members and sold raffle tickets for $10.00 each. There were approximately 120 tickets sold. The winning ticket was drawn by our own executive secretary, Erin Galat. The one problem was she drew the wrong ticket! I was supposed to win! But I didn’t. Bummer. Mr. Luckiest of Them All Jepp Walter won!!!! Congratulations, Jepp! Thank you to all who donated. This was a very fun raffle that we will do again in the fall.

Our speaker this week is WBOB Radio personality Bill Hay, host of the weekend show “I’m Speaking Plainly”. He will provide commentary on Jacksonville’s current political scene.

See you Wednesday!
