We had a great meeting last week with Congressman John Rutherford as our guest speaker. Congressman Rutherford almost didn’t make it because he had a surprise press conference with Speaker of the House, Paul Ryan. Speaker Ryan was in town to view the flooding from Hurricane Irma in downtown Jacksonville (the last major flood in our city was in 1846, by the way!). We received an update on the current FEMA situation and Congressman Rutherford gave us some detailed insights on how earmarks and appropriations work in Congress. The house was packed and we look forward to Mr. Rutherford speaking with us again next year.

Next week our guest speaker is Chris Hughes with the Timucuan Ecological and Historic Preserve. Chris has some compelling information to share in regards to the natural and cultural preservation in northeast Florida.

Please bring a bottle of wine to the meeting for our wine raffle (details below). We will be selling tickets in the next couple weeks and the drawing will be held on Wednesday, November 1.

See you Wednesday!
