Issue 5, January 29th

Can you say jobs?  Lots and lots of jobs!  Our guest speaker last week was Jerry Mallot with JAX USA Partnership.  Jerry and his team work diligently to bring companies and their talented workforces to Jacksonville.  There are 1700 new jobs coming to our city and it’s only the first month of the year!  Jerry touched on the specifics — Amazon’s two warehouses, IKEA, Ernst and Young and one close to my heart – a new building for MD Anderson Cancer Center. Really exciting times for Jacksonville!

This week’s guest speaker is Donna Deegan with the DONNA Foundation.

Award-winning journalist, philanthropist and marathoner, Donna Deegan is the founder and president of The DONNA Foundation, a nonprofit that raises funds to assist breast cancer patients with critical financial needs. In 2003, Donna formed the organization after she was diagnosed a second time with breast cancer.

In 2008, Donna created 26.2 with DONNA, The National Marathon to Finish Breast Cancer, dedicated to breast cancer research and care, benefiting the Mayo Clinic Breast Cancer Translational Genomics Program and The DONNA Foundation. The marathon is listed as one of CNN Travel’s top seven U.S. Marathon’s Worth the Trip and voted as favorite charity race by Women’s Running Magazine readers. It is held annually on the second weekend in February attracting thousands of runners and supporters from all 50 states and more than 20 countries.

In addition, Donna is the author of two memoirs, The Good Fight, a chronicle of her own breast cancer treatment and recovery, and Through Rose Colored Glasses, A Marathon from Fear to Love, which encourages all with life altering challenges to change their perspective from one of fear to one of love.

Please encourage your friends and co-workers to come to this very important and encouraging meeting with Donna Deegan.
