Issue 68 April 4

We had the pleasure of hosting Mayor Lenny Curry for a Q&A session at this week’s meeting. Mayor Curry discussed a variety of topics including Jacksonville’s response to the COVID pandemic starting a year ago through his most recent decision to end the mask mandate. He also explained that he feels that the population of Jacksonville has handled the pandemic particularly well.
Additionally, Curry explained why he believes that it is in the city’s best interest to introduce a gasoline tax increase, even though he is against tax increases without a good reason. Finally, a sage piece of advice he gave the club is to determine what is important to us, for Jacksonville, and be advocates for it. This resonated with me in particular because of my goal of increasing the civic projects that the club is involved with. Look for thoughts and ways to get involved in future president’s messages!
